THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – The NYPD released surveillance images of two suspects wanted in the Bronx subway shooting that left one person dead and five others injured on Monday.
Three different people fired shots during the gang-related shooting at the Mount Eden Avenue subway station, according to police.
The NYPD released surveillance images of two of the three suspected shooters and are seeking help identifying them. No arrests have been made in the case.
The incident started when two groups that knew each other got into a fight on a northbound No. 4 train, NYPD officials said. One person opened fire as the train pulled into the Mount Eden Avenue station, police said.
“People started running off the train onto the platform, and more shots were fired while on the platform. That’s where our victims were shot,” NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper said Monday.
Obed Beltran-Sanchez, a 35-year-old homeless man who was an innocent bystander, was shot and killed, according to police. The five injured victims ranged in age from 14 to 71 years old, officials said.
The three shooters fired at least 19 shots in total, police said.
“You can imagine a chaotic scene. You have a crowded train pulling onto a crowded platform, one shot being fired. Now everybody’s trying to scramble to get off the platform,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Tuesday.
