The industry is mourning the loss of

Suhani Bhatnagar

, who is known for her role as the young

in the

Aamir Khan

starrer Dangal.

Suhani

passed away on February 16 in Delhi at the age of 19 after succumbing to an adverse reaction to medication during her treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Her parents have now bravely opened up to the media, providing insights into their daughter's

health struggles

in her final days.

Speaking to reporters, Suhani's father recounted how her health journey began two months ago when she started experiencing unusual swelling in her hands. Despite seeking medical attention, her illness remained unidentified until her admission to AIIMS approximately 11 days before her passing.
Her tests revealed that she was suffering from

dermatomyositis

, a rare autoimmune disorder, which could only be treated with steroids. Unfortunately, the steroids weakened her immune system, because of which she contracted an infection in the hospital. "Her lungs weakened, causing fluid buildup and making breathing difficult. On the evening of February 16, Suhani died," her father said.

Suhani's mother expressed profound pride in her daughter. She reflected on Suhani's journey from childhood modeling to landing the coveted role in Dangal. She said that Suhani was selected from a pool of 25,000 children for the role of young Babita.

"She was camera-friendly from a young age. Currently, she was pursuing a course in Mass Communication and Journalism and was in her second year. She wanted to complete her studies and then work in films," her mother said.

Earlier in the day, Aamir Khan's production house conveyed deep condolences to Suhani's family in a statement that reads, "We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji, and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani. Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts May you rest in peace."
Suhani's final rites will take place in Faridabad's Ajronda crematorium.
