Suffolk County police officers help mother deliver baby on side of highway

SHIRLEY, Long Island (PIX11) -- Three officers from the Suffolk County Police Department helped deliver a baby in Shirley Monday evening.

The officers were responding to a 911 call of a woman in active labor inside a car on Sunrise Highway.

Officers Lacey, Nappi, and Verity located the 37-year-old woman from Mastic Beach inside a Honda Accord parked on the shoulder of the highway at around 6:11 p.m.

The three helped deliver the baby and wrapped her in a blanket before the Shirley Community Ambulance arrived.

The mother and the baby were transported to the Stony Brook University Hospital.
