NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Thursday’s clipper system continues to bring rain, snow, and strong winds to the tri-state area.
Although Thursday began with mild temperatures, an arctic front will cause temperatures to drop throughout the day, reaching freezing levels overnight.
A wind advisory has been issued for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and the metropolitan area due to expected wind gusts of up to 55 mph along with the cold temperatures.
The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday. High winds can down tree limbs and potentially cause power outages. New Yorkers are encouraged to secure outdoor objects and to use extra caution when driving.
The National Weather Service has also issued a gale warning for New York Harbor until 1 a.m. Friday. Strong wind gusts of up to 45 knots and waves of two to four feet are expected, which could capsize or damage vessels.
A low water advisory has been issued for Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. due to expected abnormally low water levels. Boaters are advised to leave extra slack in their mooring lines to prevent damage to their boats, particularly near jetties and docks.
