NEW YORK (PIX11) --- Stop & Shop is closing more than a dozen underperforming stores in New York and New Jersey by the end of the year, the company announced Friday.
Seventeen area grocery stores will shutter by Nov. 2, 2024, including 10 in New Jersey and seven in New York. The chain will be closing 32 stores in the northeast.
Stop & Shop workers affected by the closures will be offered other jobs within the company, officials said.
"Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand," said Gordon Reid, president of Stop & Shop.
