NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer
Ambati Rayudu
has expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of
Rinku Singh
from the main line-up of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, with the Kolkata Knight Riders batsman finding a spot among the reserves.
Rayudu believes that Rinku's omission highlights the prioritization of statistics over cricketing sense and ability.
Rayudu's argument revolves around Rinku's ability to perform under pressure in the latter stages of T20 games. He questions whether any of the selected players have consistently demonstrated the ability to bat fluently with a high strike rate in the 16th and 17th overs, a crucial phase in T20 cricket, over the past two years.
The former Chennai Super Kings star wrote on X: "Rinku Singh’s omission clearly indicates stats rule over cricketing sense.. who in this selected Indian has been walking out in the 16 th and 17 th over in a t20 game in the last 2 years and playing fluently with a high strike rate and can win a game except Ravindra Jadeja.. he is a big miss.. quality should come before quantity and most importantly cricketing ability should come before likability on Instagram."
Rayudu emphasized that quality should take precedence over quantity, and cricketing ability should be the primary consideration rather than popularity on social media platforms like Instagram.
According to him, Rinku's exclusion may be influenced by factors beyond his on-field performances.
