NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad's young batting sensation
Abhishek Sharma
explained the significance of his unique 'L' celebration, a gesture made using his thumb and index finger, after securing wins and reaching important batting milestones during matches.
In a recent video shared on the Indian Premier League (IPL) official X handle, Abhishek revealed the celebration was initiated by him and his opening partner, Travis Head.
"It is personal to us. It stands for love, we are spreading love," said Abhishek.
The revelation came after a thrilling match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, where Abhishek Sharma and
Heinrich Klaasen
led SRH to a successful chase of 215 against Punjab Kings with five balls to spare.
Speaking about the significance of his family’s presence at the stadium, Abhishek shared, "My whole family, except my father, is here. It is special to me if they are able to come here and see me, and celebrate with me in such moments."
Abhishek Sharma made history on Sunday by becoming the Indian batter with the most sixes in a single edition of the IPL. During the match, he smashed 66 off just 28 balls, hitting five fours and six sixes at an impressive strike rate of 235.71.
With this performance, Abhishek has hit 41 sixes this season, surpassing
Virat Kohli
's record of 38 sixes in the 2016 IPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He also outperformed his teammates Heinrich Klaasen (33 sixes) and Travis Head (31 sixes in 2024), as well as David Warner's 31 sixes in 2016, setting a new record for SRH.

holds the overall record for most sixes in a single IPL season, with 59 sixes for RCB in 2012.
In 13 innings this season, Abhishek has scored 467 runs, ranking ninth among the highest run-scorers, with an average of 38.91 and a strike rate of 209.41. He has recorded three half-centuries, with a top score of 75*.
