Spring 'Pink Moon' to rise in New York City this month

5 months ago 9

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- Stargazers will get a special spring treat in late April — a pink full moon.

The "Pink Moon" will rise on April 23, and reach peak illumination at 7:45 p.m., according to Almanac. Unfortunately, the moon will not look pink, the name comes from the springtime blooms of a wildflower native to eastern North America.

This full moon symbolizes the beginning of spring and marks the first full moon of the spring season.

The next full moon won't be until May 23.
