BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. (PIX11) -- SCPA Westchester announced its first Mobile Adoption Unit is set to hit the road, officials said on Monday.

The unit features 20 spacious cages, roll-up viewing windows, and a booth for matching-making between staff and potential adopters.

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Chappaqua Farmer's Market on May 11, the unit will hit the road to "increase animal adoptions and educate the public on the importance of rescue," SPCA organizers shared.

“SPCA Westchester and shelters nationwide find ourselves in crisis post pandemic with adoption rates steadily decreasing,” says Shannon Laukhuf, an SPCA executive. "Evolving the adoption process in a more efficient and accessible way is the crucial next step in our mission to help more animals in need."

Dogs and puppies will be available for adoption at the ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony.
