RTA Ludhiana
has made it mandatory to give
fitness certificates
to
commercial vehicles
only after getting
tax clearance certificates
from the
section officer
.
Earlier the fitness certificates were issued as per the information available on the e-governance portal of the department.
Now the RTA office will issue fitness certificates only after getting verification of pending dues.
Directions in this regard have been issued to the officials and employees of the Ludhiana RTA office.
RTA Randeep Singh that the directions are a part of precautionary measure to avoid any infringement or to double check if there are any dues pending against the commercial vehicle.
He said, “Though there is nothing wrong in the online system and up to the date information pertaining to tax and penalties available on it. But we have set up mechanisms to double check the information. “
“Fitness certificates are given to only those commercial vehicles, which are adhering to all the norms, including submission of tax and fine,” he added.
He stated in the direction that it has come to his notice that fitness certificates are being issued without verification pending tax and penalties.
“In some cases in the past, fitness certificates were issued by just checking the tax entries and without collecting interest and penalties from the commercial vehicles. Therefore you are directed to not issue any fitness certificate without getting tax clearance and verification from the section officer deployed at this office,” directions reads.
