NEW YORK (PIX11) – A winter weather advisory is in effect for New York City and the surrounding area as a snowstorm slams the tri-state region.
Snow totals for the New York City area could be between 3 and 5 inches.
In the Hudson Valley and Connecticut, 5 to 8 inches are expected. Those areas where heavier amounts of snow are expected are under a winter storm warning.
“Our state resources are ready and mobilized to keep New Yorkers safe as we respond to this next round of winter weather, and we will continue coordinating with our local partners throughout the storm, including taking steps to facilitate emergency salt deliveries,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “Monitoring your local forecast is critical — especially when traveling — and I encourage all New Yorkers to exercise caution as weather conditions can be unpredictable, and many warnings and watches are in effect.”
The New York City Office of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory through Sunday to prepare for the storm. Alternate side parking has been suspended.
The snow is expected to change to a wintry mix overnight. Officials warned drivers to go slow and plan extra travel time.
