BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Thanks to a video camera and Mother Nature, we can enjoy the moment two snow leopard cubs at the Bronx Zoo saw snow for the first time earlier this month.
The Bronx Zoo released the 1-minute-long video on Wednesday. It quickly received thousands of likes across the zoo's social media profiles.
"So gorgeous!" read one comment on The Bronx Zoo’s Instagram. "Still one of the greatest exhibits ever!"
On Jan. 16, the tri-state area was blanketed with snow. The area received another dusting of snow later in the week.
This was the perfect time for the snow leopard cubs to practice their hunting skills like jumping, climbing, and sneaking up on each other.
In the video, the two clubs play with each other. They run around their enclosure and jump around as their beautiful fur coats contrast with the terrain of the habitat.
The Bronx Zoo has a long history of conservation work with snow leopards. The wild animals were first exhibited in 1903, and conservation efforts at the zoo have produced 80 cubs.
Snow leopards can be found in 12 countries across Asia. There are an estimated 7,000 leopards left in the wild, which makes them a vulnerable population, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
