Snow forces hundreds of cancelations, delays at NYC area airports

NEW YORK (PIX11) ---- The winter snowstorm is causing hundreds of delays and even more cancelations at New York City airports on Tuesday.

There are more than 400 cancelations and 82 delays at La Guardia Airport, according to FlighAware.com. JFK Airport is reporting 145 delays and 198 cancelations.

In New Jersey, 273 flights have been canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to Flight Aware.

Less than 1 inch of snow has fallen at both airports in Queens, according to the Nation Weather Service. Approximately 2 inches has been reported in some of the boroughs.

A winter storm warning is in effect through Tuesday afternoon for much of the tri-state area.  A winter weather advisory is in effect through this afternoon well north and west of the city as well as the coastal spots of New Jersey. 

The snow will begin to taper off around lunchtime from west to east.  Temperatures will be near climb to 39 during the afternoon.
