MI batsman Tim David recently discussed the escalating trend of colossal scores in T20 cricket, noting that this phenomenon extends beyond just the IPL to other leagues globally. The IPL 2024 witnessed record-shattering targets being set and chased as the season is turning out to be a breakthrough with how T20 cricket will be approached in the coming future. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Tim highlighted the potential resemblance of the warm conditions in Delhi, where MI faced DC, to what teams might encounter in the West Indies during the T20 World Cup.
"We have got a day game in Delhi and it's going to be 38 degrees. It can be similar sort of conditions in the Caribbean during the day matches there, it's pretty warm so that's the first part," Tim said in the press-conference.
Tim acknowledged the challenge of anticipating the nature of pitches that would be prepared for a prestigious tournament such as the T20 World Cup.
"Hard to speculate what is the pitch going to be like in a month's time, they could spend a lot of work and make flat pitches. So, hard to speculate from this stage."
Tim observed that other franchise cricket leagues have been matching the IPL in terms of posting high totals. The scoring patterns in this IPL season seem to align with the ongoing trends in T20 cricket, both historically and recently. However, he refrained from making predictions about what might unfold during the T20 World Cup.
"It wouldn't be outlandish to say the scores this IPL has been backing the trends and haven't been different to what has been happening in T20 cricket in history and recently so high scores unique to this tournament so far and I am not going to predict what is going to happen in the T20 World Cup," David added.

SCORES IN OTHER T20 LEAGUES?
In the SA20 league, teams breached the 200-run mark 15 times out of 34 matches in a single edition, with MI Cape Town registering the highest total of 248 runs. Notably, four centuries were scored during the T20 league, reflecting the exceptional batting prowess on display. Contrasting this, in the ILT20 league, only once did a team surpass 200 runs, and that too in the final by MI Emirates, who clinched the title. Despite fewer mammoth scores, the tournament witnessed a staggering 380 sixes and 832 boundaries, emphasizing the explosive nature of the cricket played.
Shifting focus to the PSL 2024, teams crossed the 200-run mark on 10 occasions in 32 matches, with the highest total being 232 runs. Babar Azam emerged as the standout performer, amassing 569 runs in 11 innings, showcasing his dominance with the bat throughout the tournament.
RECORDS BROKEN IN IPL 2024 SO FAR
In IPL 2024, a remarkable 11-year-old record for the highest run score was shattered by SRH, who amassed a staggering 277 runs against MI. Remarkably, they outdid themselves in subsequent matches, setting a new benchmark by scoring 287 runs against RCB. RR joined the league of record-breakers by equalling the highest successful chase in IPL history, chasing down 224 runs against KKR, only to see PBKS surpass it later. Punjab scripted history by successfully chasing down 262 runs, marking the highest successful chase in IPL history.
The clash between PBKS and KKR also witnessed a flurry of sixes, with a record-breaking 42 maximums being hit, a spectacle rarely seen in T20 cricket. Furthermore, the showdown between SRH and RCB saw a total of 549 runs being scored, setting a new milestone in the history of T20 cricket.
