Skill India Digital initiative big hit in J&K as 3,100 enrol in 4 months, 15% of them women

Skill India Digital

's programmes in just over four months since October, 2023, learning a wide range of skills from

cyber security

and advanced AI to effective speaking skills and beauty therapy.
Particularly noteworthy is the active participation of female learners. The overall female enrolment stands at 15.4%, while in rural districts like Kathua and Baramula, it is significantly higher at 28.39% and 20.40%, respectively. Leh boasts of the highest female enrolment at an impressive 60%.
Bismil Rafiq (21) from Pulwama, who is pursuing her integrated geography honours from Srinagar's Cluster University, said: "I was interested in cybersecurity and our teacher in the university told us about Skill India Digital. I also used to watch a lot of cybersecurity-related content on YouTube. Moreover my interest in remote searching in my geography ignited my interest for the digital world."
Though unsure of her career path as of now, Bismil added, "I want to learn artificial intelligence while looking for a career in cyber security."

Hailing from Uri, Shagufta Bano (25) is currently in her final semester pursuing a BA programme with a specialisation in computer science at the Government Degree College. Due to the temporary closure of her college, Shagufta seized the opportunity to delve into online learning. Her interest in Python was sparked by her college curriculum, leading her to explore Skill India Digital, which she discovered through a Google search.

The courses offered span from IT, where students are pursuing subjects like artificial intelligence, Python programming, cybersecurity, web development, and data science, to technical skills development in areas such as Computer Numerical Control machining, welding and electricals. They are exploring the dynamic fields of networking and cloud computing, with courses on Azure and IoT, reflecting a keen interest in cutting-edge technology. Moreover, there's a notable inclination towards language and communication, with courses in effective speaking skills and various language modules, including Arabic.
Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO National Skill Development Corporation, said: "Skill India Digital is aligned towards harnessing our demographic dividend through comprehensive skilling initiatives. By providing cutting-edge, accessible and diverse skill development opportunities, we are preparing our youths for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. We are nurturing the future leaders of a skilled & empowered India."
