Skiers, snowboarders hit the slopes in NJ after fresh snow

VERNON, N.J. (PIX11) - When you're a kid and you get a snow day, you face some tough decisions: skiing or snowboarding?

Instead of hitting the books, Julie and Joseph are hitting the slopes. But like in the classroom, they both appreciate a good challenge.

"Skiing you can just like do more tricks easier," said Julie from Milford, Pennsylvania. "Snowboarding I think is harder, so it makes me work harder."

No matter how you come down the mountain, 13 inches of fresh snow has many runs ending in a smile.

"It's something to wake up to on a Tuesday, you know what I mean," said William Ward of Sussex County, New Jersey.

If you're like Ward and Pat Stencil from Sussex County, you've missed snowfalls like this.

"It's good, it feels like the old days," said Pat Stencel, who used to ski here growing up.

"It's fantastic to finally ride on real snow instead of just ice the entire time," said snowboarder Mike MacDonald of Jefferson, New Jersey.

There's nothing like the real thing, and here, there's plenty of it. Mountain Creek says they have had 3 feet of natural snowfall this season, more than the last two seasons combined.

"I can hit more jumps without getting worried about being hurt because it's just powder," said Kailan Rielly of Middletown, New York.

The snow is just in time for a big holiday weekend at the resort. It’s a chance for snowboarders like Rielly to shred like they haven't in years.

"I'm just excited," said Rielly. "It doesn't matter what mood I am going in, just when I start snowboarding, then I'm good."
