Indian Myeloma Congress

– 2024, from 12th to 14th January 2023 at

Symbiosis Medical College

for Women, Lavale, Pune.
IMAGe is a common platform for patients, caregivers, residents/fellows, and treating physicians. It was formally launched in 2018 to strengthen research and create awareness about plasma cell disorders in the Indian subcontinent.

It was inaugurated by Lt Gen Narendra Kotwal, SM, VSM Director and Commandant in the presence of Lt Gen MA Tutakne, AVSM (Retd) and Dr Vijay Sagar, Dean of the Medical College.
Myeloma is a type of incurable blood cancer that is easily treatable if diagnosed in time. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Multiple Myeloma – Extending Survival.” In physical attendance were international experts of Myeloma like Dr. Nikhil Munshi, Harward Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute; Dr. Vincent Rajkumar, Dr. Priya Sampathkumar, and Dr. Prashant Kapoor from Mayo Clinic in the US, Dr. Amit Khot and Dr. Dipti Talaulikar from Australia and Dr. Chandramouli from Singapore. National Experts, including 186 faculty and delegates from all the major institutes of the country, also participated in the event. Around 104 research works done from various parts of the country will be presented at this conference.
Col (Dr) Y Uday, secretary of the IMAGe, showcased the various activities of the group encompassing patient care, education activities for the students and research activities. During the inauguration, he announced Dr Tapan Saikia traveling fellowship award, Dr Reena Nair educational grant for the students. Various patient support programs were also announced. The conference saw the release of the Amyloidosis and Waldenstrom Chapters, which are rare disorders with a lack of diagnostics and adequate therapeutic facilities in the country, thus enhancing

research activities

in these areas in our country. The secretary also mentioned that the conference proceedings were live-streamed to different institutes in the country and also other friendly SAARC countries.

Experts and novitiates from the national and international myeloma fraternity will share their thoughts and wisdom in this academic feast encompassing various aspects of plasma cell dyscrasias, including diagnostics, precursor screening, risk stratification, therapeutics, and future perspectives. An overarching feature of the congress would be discussing myeloma research work specific to the Indian population in each of these sessions. A panoply of workshops, panel discussions, CME talks, debates, and research work presentations will showcase the latest developments, innovations, challenges & opportunities in the realm of plasma cell dyscrasias.

The much-awaited Annual Quiz on plasma cell disorders is a highlight of the meeting. It is being organized to promote academic excellence with the opportunity to grab prize money of up to one lakh. Students and researchers across the country shall present their work in the field of Myeloma as part of Poster and Oral presentations, the winners of the best research will be sponsored for International Observership programs to help them further their research. This year’s conference is not one to miss. The IMAGe looks forward to learning together and networking.
