KOTTAYAM: A 'dead man' was found alive, posing a daunting task for police to identify who was buried at a tribal colony in Manjothode,

Pathanamthitta

. The body, initially thought to be that of Raman Babu, a 70-year-old resident of the tribal colony, was buried on December 31, police said.
Discovered in the forest region near Laha, it was suspected that an elephant fatally attacked the person on December 30, forest officials said. The burial took place on the residential premises of Raman's house after his children identified the body as his, police said.
However, on Saturday morning, A Krishnankutty, the section forest officer at Kokkathode forest station, and tribal watcher Manu, on a routine trip, spotted a person resembling Raman in Kokkathode. Manu, a relative of Raman, first confirmed his identity.
Daughter & sons had confirmed the identity

Raman’s eldest daughter, residing in Laha, was then called, and she verified that it was her father. Later, his two sons also confirmed his identity.
Police said that Raman had a habit of wandering and exploring the forest. Now, police face the challenging task of determining the identity of the person mistakenly buried. They said that the buried body would have to be exhumed.
