NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans skipper
Shubman Gill
found himself on the wrong side of the IPL regulations as he was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their recent match against Chennai Super Kings.
The penalty was imposed as it marked the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over rate violations, as stated in an official IPL statement.
Despite Gill's leadership, the Gujarat Titans faced their initial setback of the tournament with a 63-run defeat against defending champions Chennai Super Kings.
This loss came after a promising start to the season, where Gill's team secured a victory over Mumbai Indians in their opening match, winning by six runs.
Gill, leading an IPL franchise for the first time, now faces the task of rallying his team and rectifying their on-field discipline as they aim to bounce back from their recent defeat and continue their campaign in the tournament.
