NEW DELHI: Winning the toss and opting to bowl is a common phenomenon in the IPL. However, Kolkata Knight Riders captain
Shreyas Iyer
found himself fortunate despite losing the coin toss to Delhi Capitals.
DC skipper
Rishabh Pant
's decision to bat first against KKR at Eden Gardens brought a smile to Iyer's face as he had preferred to bowl first.
When presenter and former India batter
Sanjay Manjrekar
asked Iyer what he would have done if he had won the toss, Iyer responded cheerfully that they would have chosen to bowl first regardless.
Manjrekar playfully remarked, "Then we shouldn't have come out for the toss," acknowledging that both captains had achieved their desired outcomes.
"We'll bat first. The way our team is poised, would look to put a score on the board. Wicket looks slightly on the slower side," Pant said.
"We were looking to bowl first. Rishabh and I were having a chat - he said 'we're looking to bat' and I said we're looking to bowl. We're trying to keep things as simple as possible. When you lose a game like that, scoring 260, it's easy for people to go away from each other and backbite. But we're keeping everyone together," said Iyer.
DC brought in Prithvi Shaw in place of Kumar Kushagra, while right-arm pacer Rasikh Salam Dar is also part of their playing XI.
KKR too made two changes in the line-up, bringing in Australian quick Mitchell Starc and right-arm pacer Vaibhav Arora.
