Microsoft

is betting big on India’s

AI

talent pool and the company CEO

Satya Nadella

has been talking about how its AI offering, Microsoft Copilot, is helping people accelerate their work in multiple areas. One of the use cases that Nadella highlighted is the use of

Shiksha Copilot

.
“It was awesome seeing firsthand today this example of how

Indian educators

are applying this next generation of AI to give time back to

teachers

and deliver more engaging lesson plans for students,” Nadella, who is on a visit to India, said in a post on X.

What is Shiksha copilot

Shiksha copilot is part of Project VeLLM, which is Microsoft Research India’s platform to develop specialised generative AI copilots accessible to teachers, farmers and small business owners. It is built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and combined with the school curriculum and learning objectives.
“With Shiksha copilot, the researchers hope India’s army of overstretched government school teachers could soon get a break – and their students could enjoy livelier and richer lessons,” Microsoft said. The biggest benefit that the AI tool provides is time required for teachers to prepare for class.

The development comes as Nadella said in his key address earlier this week that the company will skill 2 million people to strengthen India’s AI talent.

The

Microsoft CEO

also met with the Indian developers and said that the company will empower the fast-growing developer community in the country to build products and services for the country as well as for the world. He said that India holds the biggest promise in creating AI-based products on the company's AI-powered platform GitHub.
“India which is currently second to the US will have the largest developer community on GitHub by 2027. The country is currently second among the top 10 global communities creating the most generative AI projects on GitHub,” Nadella told a gathering of developers in Bengaluru.
