NEW DELHI: In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, India's

Shaurya Bawa

secured a spot in the semifinals of the

World Junior Squash

Championships in Houston, guaranteeing himself a medal.
The 18-year-old from Delhi battled hard to overcome Malaysian Low Wa-Sern in a thrilling five-game encounter, emerging victorious with a score of 2-11 11-4 10-12 11-8 12-10.

Bawa's achievement is particularly noteworthy as he becomes only the second Indian male to reach the semifinals, following in the footsteps of Kush Kumar, who accomplished the feat in 2014.
The quarterfinal clash was a grueling affair that lasted 80 minutes, with Bawa facing deficits of 6-9 and 7-10 in the decisive fifth game.

However, he displayed incredible composure and skill to save three match balls and clinch the victory.
With this impressive win, Bawa has set up a semifinal showdown against Egyptian top-seed Mohamed Zakaria. On the other hand, Bawa's compatriot Anahat Singh experienced a disappointing exit from the girls' quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. The 16-year-old women's national champion put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short against Nadien Elhammamy of Egypt in a closely contested five-setter, with the final score reading 11-8 11-9 5-11 10-12 13-11 in favor of Elhammamy.
