Shabana Azmi recently opened up about dealing with her husband Javed Akhtar's alcoholism. She described the phase as 'difficult' and also revealed how one day he suddenly promised that he wouldn't drink any more, and he fulfilled his promise.

In a recent conversation with Arbaaz Khan on The Invincible Series, actor Shabana Azmi spoke about how dealing with her husband Javed Akhtar’s alcoholism took a heavy toll on their relationship.

"It was very difficult”, she admits upon being asked about Javed’s addiction. She described it as a tumultuous time in her life which tested her resilience and willpower.

Despite the emotional toll it took on their relationship, Javed eventually decided on quitting alcohol. She continued, "He had decided that he wouldn't be able to live longer and do creative work anymore if he didn't quit drinking like this."

She further spoke about the moment Akhtar decided not to drink any more. "We were in a flat in London, and he was stinking of alcohol, and I was like, oh my god, it is going to be one of those trips'. And, very quietly, he told me to make him some breakfast. He had that and after the breakfast he said I am not going to drink any more."

Initially, his claims didn't resonate with her, but much to her disbelief, he did end up quitting alcohol.
