NEW YORK (PIX11) – A sexually transmitted ringworm caused by a rare fungus has been reported for the first time in the U.S.
A New York man who traveled to the U.K., Greece and California contracted the highly contagious fungus, according to health officials.
He developed a red, itchy rash after returning home. The man took anti-fungal medications, but it still took more than four months to heal, according to doctors.
Doctors in France reported 13 cases of the ringworm, saying most cases occur in men having same-sex intercourse.
