NEW JERSEY (PIX11) --- The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a storm expected to hit parts of New York and New Jersey on Memorial Day.
The alert impacts all five boroughs in New York City as well as Orange, Westchester, and Putnam counties. Bergen, Essex, Huson, Union, and Passaic counties in New Jersey are also expected to see thunderstorms, according to the NWS.
The warning is in effect until 9 p.m. The agency has also issued a thunderstorm watch for the tri-state area and Pennsylvania. High winds, hail, and even some tornadoes are possible, according to the NWS.
Rain and thunderstorms will move through the region toward evening. Some of these storms may contain damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours. The high will be 70 in the city and upper 60s to low 70s in the suburbs.
The weather has already caused flight delays and New York City area airports and postponed Monday's Mets-Dodgers game at Citi Field.
