BABYLON, Long Island (PIX11) – Several people were taken into custody Tuesday night and charges are pending in connection with the severed body parts found in a Babylon park, according to sources.
Suffolk police executed a search warrant at an Amityville home Monday night in connection to the bodies, according to sources. More body parts were later discovered at two new locations on Tuesday, police said.
Human remains were found in a wooded area across from 103 Lakeway Dr. in West Babylon as well as at Bethpage State Park, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. No human remains were found in the Amityville home at 25 Railroad Ave., according to authorities.
The remains are believed to belong to the same victims found at Southards Pond Park in Babylon last Thursday, according to police.
Body parts belonging to a 59-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were found at Southards Pond Park, police said. The victims were last known to have lived in Yonkers, but it’s unclear where they were living most recently, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The deaths of the man and woman appear to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public, police said.
“There were many cars here and they were looking around,” said Amityville resident Elda Romero. “I’m surprised because this is a safe neighborhood.”
The investigation began Thursday after a student walking to school discovered a severed left arm at the eastern end of Southards Pond Park, according to police. Various body parts belonging to the victims, including a severed head, were found at the park during the police investigation.
Police said the body parts found at the park appeared to have been dumped recently. A motive in the case remained unclear.
Investigators are waiting on an autopsy report to reveal more information on the cause of death of both victims.
