NEW YORK (PIX11) – Drone sightings across the tri-state area have both the public and authorities on edge as investigations into their appearances are underway.
Mike Walsh, a resident of Randolph, previously told PIX11 News that he's seen them numerous times in the sky — some the size of cars.
"It’s kind of unsettling," he said.
The FBI is working with other law enforcement agencies to try to get to the bottom of the drone mystery.
Here's how police in New Jersey are tracking drone sightings:
Monmouth County Sheriff's Office
The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office published a map that shows where drones have been seen, along with how often they've been seen. Manaplan Township, Marlboro Township, Freehold, Keyport, Union Beach and Keansburg seemingly have the highest number of drone spotting based on the map.

“We are aware of the unease these drone sightings have caused in our communities,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden in a Facebook post. “The safety and security of our residents are our top priorities. We urge federal and state authorities to work together in locating the source of these drones and determining their intent. It is essential that we address these incidents swiftly to prevent any concerns or disruptions.”
Picatinny Arsenal Police Department
The Picatinny Arsenal Police Department, located inside the Picatinny Arsenal military base, has been keeping track of sightings based on whether officers or security guards witnessed a drone at the time of the report.
Confirmed means that the drone was spotted at the time of the report and unconfirmed means that the police officer or security guard did not see a drone at the time of the report.
Here's a breakdown of the reports from the Picatinny Arsenal:

"While the source and cause of these aircraft operating in our area remain unknown, we can confirm that they are not the result of any Picatinny Arsenal-related activities," said Lt. Col. Craig A. Bonham II, the Picatinny Arsenal garrison commander.
New Jersey isn't the only area seeing drones — they've also been spotted over Staten Island and Brooklyn.
New York lawmakers are also calling on federal officials to investigate the sightings.
You're able to reach out to the FBI if you believe you've seen one of these drones.
