IRVINGTON, N.J. (PIX11) -- A search is underway for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy Monday in Irvington, New Jersey, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosector’s Office has taken the lead on the investigation into the sexual assault that took place around 6:30 a.m. on Ellis Street.

According to police, the boy was coming home from walking his dog. Doorbell video showed he was just steps away from his front door when the suspect approached, put him in a chokehold, and dragged him to the side of the house, where the attack allegedly took place.

Neighbors said the man has approached other children in the neighborhood.

Andrea said her children and grandchildren will stay glued to her from now on. She said the neighborhood is on alert.

“We will take them to school, we will pick them up,” said Andrea. “One neighbor is looking out for the other one.”

Police described the suspect as a stocky man, about 6 feet tall, who weighs 250 pounds and has long dreadlocks.
