HYDERABAD: Two

Dalit girls

died by suspected suicide late Saturday at a

Telangana

govt hostel for

SCs

near Hyderabad after being reprimanded by a teacher for allegedly misbehaving with some female junior students.
The duo was in class 10 at a govt school near their hostel in Bhongir. Both their families live in the city. Police have started a probe under Section 174 CrPC, pertaining to suicide inquest.

Cops said the two friends left behind a purported suicide note saying were falsely blamed for an altercation that led to them being ticked off, and confessed to being "scared" and "embarrassed".
"Nobody believes us. Only Shailaja ma'am (hostel warden) believed us. We have not done what we are being accused of. We are being framed for something we did not do. We are unable to cope with it and so we are dying by suicide. Perform our funeral together," read the letter with the signatures of both.
Attempts to reach the warden and SC development officer of the district remained unsuccessful.District education officer Narayan Reddy said: "At the moment, it appears there was a complaint by students of junior classes against the two girls. It was a small issue, and the school informed the warden immediately. The warden came and took the girls and counselled them. The matter was resolved, but it appears the girls were disturbed by it."

The families of the two girls were in a state of disbelief. "We are not convinced that they wrote such a letter praising just their warden. We can't understand why their teachers and warden did not call and inform us when there were complaints against them? The police must probe their roles," said one of the parents.
