SCG honours India spinners Bedi, Yadav for fifth IND vs AUS Test

NEW DELHI: The iconic

Sydney Cricket Ground

(SCG) paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary Indian spinner

Bishan Singh Bedi

ahead of the fifth and final Test of the

Border-Gavaskar Trophy

, set to begin on Friday (January 3).
"As is a tradition at the SCG, the away changeroom features the original calico rolls from the SCG scoreboard that stood at the back of the hill from 1924 to 1984. Bedi and Yadav are the two names on display in the Indian dressing room for the New Year’s Test," read a post from SCG on their social media.

However, there was ambiguity regarding which "Yadav" the SCG post referred to—Shivlal Yadav or Kuldeep Yadav—since both Indian spinners have claimed five-wicket hauls at the iconic venue.

Shivlal, who represented India in 35 Tests and 7 ODIs between 1979 and 1987, achieved his five-wicket haul during the drawn Test in 1986.

Kuldeep, on the other hand, registered his five-for during the 2019 Test, which also ended in a draw.
India, currently trailing the five-match series 1-2, will need a victory at the SCG to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit Sharma’s team is aiming to continue India’s recent dominance in the series, having won consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophy titles in Australia—first under Virat Kohli’s leadership in 2018-19 and then under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy in 2020-21.
