defeated the
Portland Trail Blazers
118-105 on Thursday night, breaking a
five-game losing streak
.
Victor Wembanyama
played a starring role for the Spurs, contributing 30 points, six rebounds, six assists, and seven blocks in an impressive all-around performance.
The
Spurs
took control of the game from the start, never trailing and building a substantial 28-point lead in the first quarter.
They maintained a 38-14 advantage going into the second quarter, shooting at a remarkable 67% while holding the Trail Blazers to just 22%.
Despite Portland's efforts to cut into the lead in the second quarter, the Spurs headed into halftime with a 59-45 edge. The Trail Blazers, missing starting point guard Anfernee Simons due to illness and late scratch Duop Reath, who scored a career-high 25 points in the previous game, were unable to mount a comeback.
Although Portland made a push in the third quarter, trimming San Antonio's lead to eight points, the Spurs maintained control and extended their advantage to 87-74 heading into the final period. Wembanyama's standout performance, along with contributions from
Jeremy Sochan
(16 points, seven rebounds), propelled the Spurs to a decisive victory.
Scoot Henderson
, a fellow lottery pick, finished with 25 points, four assists, and six turnovers for the Trail Blazers.
Malcolm Brogdon
and Jerami Grant each scored 29, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Spurs' strong start.
The Spurs and Trail Blazers face each other again on Friday night, providing a quick turnaround for both teams.
