NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has come to the defense of Hardik Pandya amidst mounting criticism and personal attacks following the Mumbai Indians' dismal performance in the IPL 2024.
Pandya, who was recently named vice-captain of India's T20 World Cup squad, endured a difficult evening as the Mumbai Indians suffered another defeat, effectively extinguishing their playoff hopes.
The team's struggles, coupled with Pandya's return as captain, have drawn considerable scrutiny and negativity from fans and spectators.
However, Jaffer took to social media to offer words of encouragement and support to Pandya in the face of adversity.
"Criticise his performance as much as you want but it's extremely disappointing to see the constant personal trolling and attacks. Stay strong @hardikpandya7 next month you'll be playing crucial knocks in WC and the same people will be singing your praise," Jaffer posted, condemning the unwarranted personal attacks directed at Pandya.
Jaffer's post underscores the need for empathy and understanding in the face of public scrutiny, emphasizing the importance of standing by athletes during challenging times. Despite the criticism, Jaffer believes in Pandya's ability to deliver on the international stage, particularly in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
