MUMBAI: Congress’s leader of opposition (LoP) Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday alleged that
Vishalgad violence
is sponsored by the government. Wadettiwar said the govt should tell who is the mastermind of the incident. He urged that the incident should be investigated at a high level and strict action should be taken against the culprits. Waddettiwar demanded that the Kolhapur Collector should be transferred and the Superintendent of Police (SP) should be suspended immediately.
Samajwadi party MLA
Rais Shaikh sought a
CID probe
into the Vishalgad violence. Shaikh wrote to DCMs Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a CID probe. Shaikh also called for the externment of those involved in the violence and for compensation to be provided to the affected people within 15 days.
Shaikh stated that despite the matter being sub judice, extreme right-wing associations took the law into their own hands. "It was a planned conspiracy to incite riots under the guise of encroachment. The dargah and mosque of the famous saint Malik Rehanbaba were destroyed. Those involved committed acts of violence by burning and vandalizing the houses, shops, and vehicles of the muslim community.
Violence occurred in the presence of the SP with the police force being a mute spectator. The local police have maintained a passive stance in this matter. Therefore, the muslim community no longer trusts the local police. A CID probe must be instituted,” Shaikh said.
Shaikh expressed concerns that the
minority community
fears there could be more incidents in the coming months ahead of the assembly elections. "The orchestrated violence has created an atmosphere of fear among the minority community. To instill confidence, externment action must be taken against those involved in the riots," Shaikh demanded.
Shaikh also demanded that the government must ensure that the affected people should be given adequate compensation within 15 days. "The damage to their properties has caused an immense loss to these families. Their sufferings have intensified due to the ongoing monsoon season. Therefore, the efforts shall be expedited to provide relief in 15 days to them," Shaikh added.
Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh met director general (DG) of Police Rashmi Shukla on Tuesday and demanded action against those who took to violence at Vishalgad. Aslam slammed the MahaYuti govt and said that an atmosphere of unrest was being created (in the state) because of the loss of an election (Lok Sabha polls). Congress MLA Amin Patel was also present when Shaikh met Shukla.
