TikTok, the social media giant that has captured the world's attention, is not only known for its vibrant content but also for its competitive workplace. Now, Business Insider has leaked the details of the hefty salaries that are earned by its employees, with data claiming software engineers earn up to Rs 2 crore in a year. The cited source reported that TikTok has around a billion monthly active users globally and TikTok has been aggressively expanding its team to keep up with the surging demand.
Despite reports of a high-pressure work culture, TikTok remains a sought-after employer, as per the report. The company's strategic hires in the past year have focused on key initiatives like TikTok Shop for e-commerce and its data-sovereignty division, USDS. Currently, TikTok is actively recruiting for over 2,500 positions in the US, according to listings on its careers portal.
The report states that the leaked salary data is based on thousands of work-visa disclosures from the US Office of Foreign Labor Certification. It claims that data revealed the compensation packages of specific roles within TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance. However, it is important to keep in mind that the mentioned some of the figures are of the minimum amounts stated in labor applications for specific roles. Here is a glimpse into some of the reported job roles and their corresponding median salaries.
Among them, Backend Software Engineer in Global E-Commerce commands a median salary of $222,000, with a range from $135,283 to $320,000. Accountants specializing in Expense Management receive $73,000. For Backend Engineers in Machine Learning, the median salary is $157,680, varying between $157,680 and $175,000.
Another category of Backend Software Engineers earns a median of $198,440, with a range from $135,283 to $288,000. Those working in Ads Data earn a median of $160,000, with a range of $144,788 to $186,000. Backend Engineers focused on Video Experience receive $190,000. The crucial role of Backend Software Engineer in TikTok Privacy commands a median salary of $270,000, ranging from $210,000 to $285,000. Data Analysts and Data Engineers both receive a median of $160,000, with ranges from $98,357 to $220,680 and $105,000 to $260,000, respectively.
Product Managers reportedly earn a median of $204,375, with a range from $94,680 to $350,000. Research Scientists have a median salary of $210,000, ranging between $150,000 and $345,800.
