LUCKNOW:The railway protection force (RPF) across India recovered 11,000 children who ran away from homes or got separated from their parents during

train journeys

in the calendar year of 2023, said

“Under operation ‘Nanhe Farishte’ in two years, we recovered 28,000 children including 17,000 alone in 2022 from trains and railway stations.

Apart from that our teams under operation Aahat in coordination with Bachpan Bachao Andolan rescued 1,048 minors from child traffickers last year while they were being taken for labour jobs on the pretext of providing good wages. Minors are often trafficked to Surat, Bengaluru, Firozabad, Delhi, Punjab for child labour. We managed to nab 257 child traffickers and handed them over to GRP,” said DG.
He said, “In 2023, RPF returned more than 49,000 luggage worth Rs 54 crore to passengers who had left in train or railway station. Around 40 crore worth of narcotics was seized and 922 drug peddlers were caught. The RPF also nabbed 493 wanted accused in 2023 including a man who had raped 10-year-old girl in Gujarat and was trying to escape Mumbai via train.”
Under the Meri Saheli initiative, there are 230 teams of RPF women constables covering 419 trains to provide security to women travelling alone in long distance trains.
