NEW DELHI: India's
T20 World Cup
campaign began with a convincing eight-wicket win against Ireland, but the victory was slightly marred by an injury to captain
Rohit Sharma
.
During the chase of a modest target of 97, Rohit was struck on his upper arm by a delivery from pacer
Josh Little
in New York on Wednesday. Despite the blow, Rohit played a crucial knock of 52 off 37 balls, which included four fours and three sixes, setting the foundation for India's successful chase.
The incident occurred on the second ball of the ninth over, and Rohit left the field with the Indian team physio after the final ball of the 10th over.
The extent of his injury is yet to be determined, as the pitch exhibited variable bounce throughout the match.
In addition to Rohit's injury, wicketkeeper-batsman
Rishabh Pant
also suffered a blow to his elbow on the first ball of the 11th over, once again delivered by Josh Little.
Pant received treatment from the physio but continued batting, eventually sealing the match with a six.
