"A billion dreams, a billion emotions, and a billion smiles! Mission accomplished. World Cup conquered. We are World Champions. Hey, Captain! You've done it," BCCI captioned its post on microblogging online platform 'X'.

Batting first in the final on Saturday, India rode on Virat Kohli's 76 and Axar Patel's 47-run knock to put up a challenging 176 for 7 on the board.

In run-chase, Heinrich Klaasen (52) and Quinton de Kock (39) drove South Africa into a comfortable position, neding a run a ball with wickets in hand, before Hardik Pandya (3/20), Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) and Arshdeep Singh (2/20) brought India back.
Thanks to timely strikes by Pandya and Bumrah, accompanied by Suryakumar Yadav's 'superman' catch on the boundary line to dismiss David Miller (21), India limited SA to 169/8 to clinch the title.
