NEW DELHI: Former Mumbai Indians captain
Rohit Sharma
launched an angry outburst on the IPL's official broadcasters after his video of conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach
Abhishek Nayar
went viral on social media.
Rohit expressed his concerns regarding the conduct of broadcasters through a lengthy post on his social media platform X. In his message, he raised questions about the broadcasters' practice of recording every movement and private conversation.
He also stated that sometimes they tend to cross the line by taking unnecessary footage of private conversations without consent.
"The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days," Rohit posted on X.
"Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail," he added.
Rohit, in the video, despite a loud noise in the background, was heard saying: "Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai...Woh unke upar hai...Jo bhi hai woh mera ghar hai bhai, woh temple jo hai na maine banwaya hai." The last audible line in the chat was: "Bhai mera kya mera to ye last hai".
Rohit's dialogue sparked various reactions across social media, with many fans becoming emotional amid speculations that the IPL 2024 might mark Rohit's final season with MI.
Following the video's viral spread, Rohit encountered a similar incident just before the match against Lucknow Super Giants.
Rohit was captured in conversation with former MI pacer Dhawal Kulkarni.
When Rohit noticed that someone was recording his video, Rohit folded his hands, requested, and said: "Bhai, audio band karo haan. Kasam se, ek audio ne mera waat laga diya hai".
