NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – New York City’s primo Christmas tree will sparkle tonight, kicking off the holiday season at Rockefeller Center.
The 74-foot tree was hauled in from Massachusetts in November. On Wednesday, it will be officially lit with thousands of multi-colored lights.
Five miles of wired lights will make Rockefeller Center glow from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. daily through mid-January.
The tree lighting will be broadcast on NBC starting at 8 p.m. Kelly Clarkson will host the event and will include performances by Jennifer Hudson, the Backstreet Boys and Broadway star Megan Hilty, according to NBC.
The first-ever Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony was in 1933. This year’s tree is 70 years old, according to the Rockefeller Center.
