NEW YORK (PIX11) – Rite Aid is selling or closing all of its stores amid new bankruptcy filings, including locations in New York and New Jersey.
Rite Aid currently has 1,240 locations in the United States, including 60 in New Jersey and 178 in New York. The chain had previously announced closures across the region.
On Wednesday, A & G Real Estate Partners began marketing the leases for bid and auction, calling for quick action to take over the properties.
In New York City, Rite Aid stores on sale range between 7,000 and 30,000 square feet with leases through 2034. In New Jersey, a 66,490-square-foot Rite Aid distribution center is on sale.
The company plans to sell customer prescription files, inventory and other assets as it closes distribution centers and unloads store locations. Stores will remain open for now, but the company isn’t buying new inventory so bare shelves are likely become more common.
