Bollywood's lively actress
Rimi Sen
, celebrated for her roles in comedies such as 'Hungama,' 'Dhoom,' 'Phir Hera Pheri,' has remained a mystery for years. Known for her vibrant performances, she appeared to vanish from the silver screen.
However, there's exciting news! The 42-year-old actress has returned to the spotlight, and in a recent interview, she revealed the reasons behind her hiatus from Hindi cinema after a series of successful films.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rimi disclosed, “Main
comedy films
kar kar ke thak gayi thi(I was tired of doing comedy films again and again), there used to be not much of a role for me there,”
She further mentiond, “Mera sirf furniture role hota tha. I had a good role in only a few, like Hungama and Johnny Gaddaar (2007)The latter didn’t work, and that’s the kind of work I wanted to do."
She mentioned that despite having worked with top actors like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, she is no longer in contact with anyone from the
film industry
.
Rimi posed a question during the same interview she asked,“I can’t ask anyone for help. Jab tak gidgidao nahin, help nahin milti hai. Why won’t other people look for their own benefit? Why will someone go out of their way to help someone?”
Rimi then mentioned that she wasn't adept at self-promotion, unlike some other actors. She said, “Stakes are really high in this industry. Talent comes later-you should first know how to handle people. Otherwise kuchh nahin ho sakta, talent pada rahega store room mein. Mujhe nahin aata tha bechna, PR karna.”
Rimi took a step back from movies at the height of her career. She mentioned reasons like
nepotism
and the scarcity of
substantial roles
for women in films as factors that left her dissatisfied. She desired to portray
diverse characters
but felt overlooked despite being part of many popular movies. This contributed to her decision to take a break from acting.
