KOCHI:

Transport Minister

K B Ganesh Kumar has said a

retaining wall

of three feet height will be constructed along the embankment of

Vivekananda canal

to prevent the stormwater overflowing to

Ernakulam KSRTC depot

, a piecemeal solution which is likely to aggravate the flooding issue in the surrounding area.
Admitting that the issues plaguing the depot are serious, the minister said immediate measures would be taken to temporarily address the

waterlogging

at the Ernakulam KSRTC bus stand.

He mentioned that engineers from IIT will be asked to study the issue for a permanent solution and that efforts are being made for a practical resolution.
The minister was speaking after inspecting the KSRTC bus stand and its surrounding areas. He noted that the current issues at the bus stand are complex and that a permanent solution would be expensive. Besides constructing the retaining wall, discussions will be held with the railway to install a pipe under the railway line to drain out water from the bus stand.
