BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A local restaurateur is taking over the space that was occupied by Ferdinando's Focacceria in Brooklyn with a plan to honor the legacy of the 121-year-old Italian restaurant.
Ferdinando’s Focacceria, which was located at 151 Union St. near the waterfront in northwest Brooklyn, closed in February after more than 120 years in business.
However, Brooklyn restaurateur Sal Lamboglia announced Monday that he has taken over the lease of Ferdinando’s Focacceria after being personally selected by the restaurant’s longtime owner, Frank Buffa.
Lamboglia currently owns the Brooklyn restaurants Cafe Spaghetti, Swoony's, and Sal Tang's.
Buffa told Gothamist that he believes Lamboglia will keep the restaurant’s interior mostly the same. Lamboglia is also expected to introduce some new menu items, Gothamist reported.
The restaurant will have a new name but will incorporate the original Ferdinando’s Focacceria name in some way, according to Lamboglia.
“I look forward to honoring the legacy of Ferdinando’s Focacceria and expanding the restaurant group we are building here in Carroll Gardens,” Lamboglia said.
An opening date for the restaurant hasn’t been announced.
