Reserve 33% of bar body posts for women: Supreme Court

Thursday directed that at least one-third of posts in the

executive committee

of Supreme Court Bar Association (

SCBA

) should be reserved for women. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan passed direction granting

reservation

for

women

lawyers for polls scheduled this month.
The court directed that a minimum of three out of nine seats in the executive committee and at least two out of six senior executive members be reserved for women members of the Bar.

It said that at least one post of office-bearer shall be reserved for women exclusively by turn and on rotation basis, and for the ensuing 2024-2025

, the post of treasurer of the executive committee be reserved for women.
