NEW DELHI: India's former left spinner
Murali Kartik
, who is currently commentating in
IPL 2024
, embroiled himself in a controversy for his remarks on
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
(RCB) pacer
Yash Dayal
.
The left-arm pacer Dayal grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons last year during his time with the Gujarat Titans. He was smacked for five successive sixes by Kolkata Knight Riders' batter Rinku Singh.

But it did not have any bearing on Dayal's future in the IPL as he was bought by RCB for Rs 5 crore at the IPL 2024 auction.
While doing commentary during the RCB vs Punjab Kings match on Monday, Kartik made a remark on the move saying, "someone's trash is someone's treasure".
Kartik drew a lot of criticism on social media for calling Dayal "trash", and RCB also decided to give a befitting reply as they posted a three-word message with a picture of Dayal.
"He's treasure. Period," RCB posted on X.
Talking about the match, Virat Kohli's 77 and a finishing act by Dinesh Karthik helped RCB beat Punjab Kings by four wickets for their first win of this IPL season on Monday.
Master batsman Kohli smashed 11 fours and two sixes in his 49-ball blitz as hosts Bengaluru chased down their victory target of 177 with four balls to spare to bounce back from their loss in the opener of the lucrative T20 tournament.
Kohli fell to fast bowler Harshal Patel in the 16th over and soon Bengaluru lost another wicket before Karthik (28*) and impact substitute Mahipal Lomror (17*) steered the team home in an unbeaten stand of 48 off 18 balls.
