RCB has a slight mathematical chance like 2016: Varun Aaron

3 weeks ago 5

Varun Aaron backed RCB's hopes of making it into the playoffs and reckoned that they still stand a mathematical chance. RCB will face GT in a must-win clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 4, Saturday. Bengaluru and Gujarat will look to keep their playoffs hopes alive as they will be up against each other in a mouth-watering encounter.

While speaking on Star Sports, Aaron recalled RCB's 2016 season, which was touted as their most successful run in IPL history. He drew a comparison of RCB's 2016 season, where they reached the final by winning 7 of their last 8 matches to this season.

"The main task at hand is to take RCB in the next phase. There is still a mathematical chance, a very small and slim chance. Even in 2016, there was a chance just like this. So, Virat Kohli is not thinking a lot about it so far. His mind will be in the RCB team's dugout and how to make RCB win. That is what will be important for him," Aaron said. CAN RCB MANAGE TO QUALIFY FOR PLAYOFFS?

RCB managed to win their last 2 games, after snapping their 6-match losing streak. It will be a must-win clash for them as they stand at the bottom of the points table with just 3 wins in 10 matches. IPL 2024 Full Coverage | IPL 2024 Points Table and Standings | 2024 IPL Full Schedule

Aaron acknowledged that RCB boasted of some big hitters and lauded Virat Kohli for his 70-run knock against GT. However, he wanted Glenn Maxwell to step-up with the bat at the Chinnaswamy Stadium this time.

"RCB is in a nothing to lose position and hence, they will play more fearlesly. They have big hitters in the team and they can hit off-the block. If you look at Virat Kohli in the last match, his strike rate was brilliant. Will Jacks is batting brilliantly and a good innings from Maxwell is due at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It will be a dangerous match for GT," Aaron added.

The Shubman Gill-led GT will look to stay afloat in the tournament as they stand in 7th position in the points table with 4 wins in 7 matches.
