Bollywood star Raveena Tandon speaks to IndiaToday.in about ageism in the industry, the trend of remixes and more in an exclusive interaction.
Raveena Tandon opens up about her career.
Raveena Tandon is one actor who is known not only for her credible performances on screen, but for calling a spade by its name. While promoting her upcoming show, Karmma Calling, Raveena interacted with India Today, where she spoke about whether the industry has evolved, ageism in films and more.
RAVEENA TANDON ON THE SHELF-LIFE OF ACTORS
When asked what is that one thing her era of actresses had which is lacking today, she answered, “Anything that I can say, may have a different opinion, but for me, it would be a longer shelf life.” She added, “It’s also completely false that contemporary actors cannot be friends. All my co-stars are still my friends, and we stand by each other.”
Another constant topic of discussion in the Hindi film industry is about gender pay disparity and ageism. Reacting on the subject, Raveena shared, “It’s high time we bridge gender pay disparity as fast as possible. Also, ageism is another thing that I find strange because somehow, it’s brought up more in the media. Within the industry, it might be spoken about behind closed doors, but it’s in the media I find these comparisons very strange. They will not say the same thing for heroes, but they will definitely point it out for the actresses. Urmila, Madhuri and I are constantly picked up about this age (thing). It’s not like we are hiding our age, so it really doesn’t matter. All I can say is, you cannot take away my talent.”
RAVEENA ON REMIXES
Raveena Tandon also reacted to the trend of remixes: "It’s always a win-win situation. It adds new life to the song, it’s relevant to the Gen-Z and then whoever might do the song, I end up owning it all over again,” the actor signed off.
