MUMBAI: In a big boost for Mumbai, India's middle-order batsman
Shreyas Iyer
, who has been out of action due to back spasms, a recurring problem with him, will feature in their
Ranji Trophy
semi-final match against Tamil Nadu at the
Mumbai Cricket Association
's BKC ground from March 2.
"Yes, Iyer has confirmed to the Mumbai Cricket Association that he is fit now and available for Mumbai's Ranji semi-final match," a source told TOI.
Iyer had been experiencing back pain while batting, and thus missed Mumbai's last two Ranji matches. He made scores of 35, 13, 27 & 29 in the first two Tests against England at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Washington Sundar, Sai Sudharsan available for Tamil Nadu
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu too will be boosted by the return of India's off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar (from India duty) and Sai Sudharsan (injury) for their Ranji semi-final against Mumbai. TOI has learnt that the Indian team management has agreed to release Sundar as the fifth and final Test against England will only begin from March 7 in Dharamshala, while the semi-final match will end, provided it goes to the fifth day, on March 6.
Sudharsan was suffering from back spasms but has been given the green signal by the National Cricket Academy to return to action. "He's started batting, and will undergo match simulation today at the NCA in Bangalore. He will join the Tamil Nadu team soon," a reliable source told this paper.
