NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Rangers broadcasting legend Sam Rosen called his last hockey game on Thursday night. On his last day, the New York Rangers honored their long-time broadcaster with custom warm-up jerseys and patches.
“I’ve been watching the Rangers and listening to him since the early 60s,” Bob Kahl, a longtime fan, said.
Sam Rosen is Brooklyn-raised and has been the voice of the Rangers on MSG networks since 1984.
Christopher Brown says he has “many memories of meeting him, and talking to him, he’s the most classy,” while Chris Kahl adds, “my childhood was Sam Rosen’s voice, it’s going to be much different going forward.”
And who can’t forget Sam Rosen making the iconic call as the Rangers celebrated their 1994 Stanley Cup win. Just before calling his final game, he reflected on his career, saying every bit of the work he’s done has always been for the fans.
“I wanted to make sure we gave them a good broadcast and telecast and that when the game was over, they enjoyed watching the game.”
Rosen, 77, adds he’s humbled that the fans welcomed him with open arms during every single Rangers’ game broadcast.“I thank them for their love and support because they’ve made me want to be the best that I could possibly be,” he said.
His replacement starts next season and is another familiar face and voice, Kenny Albert.
