NEW DELHI:
Congress
leader
Rahul Gandhi
has resigned from his
Wayanad
Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. He has chosen to retain his
Rae Bareli
constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat confirmed his resignation, effective from June 18.
Congress chief
Mallikarjun Kharge
had announced the decision following discussions with the party's top leaders at his residence in Delhi.

After Rahul Gandhi's resignation, Congress now holds 98 seats in the Lower House. The bypoll for the Wayanad constituency will be the first one in the 18th Lok Sabha.
